EAPR 106 - Child Development: An Introduction

In this course we will explore child developmental to prepare learners for work with children in a variety of settings. Specifically, the course will explore the theories and research that have shaped our understanding of human development. The course will also examine the various stages of physical, cognitive, intellectual, sexual, social, perceptual, language, personality, and moral growth from birth to adolescence. In addition, the course will explore the development of relationships, self, gender, and sex roles in youth, and how the family, school, peers, media, and culture influence such development.

EAPR 113 - Observation and Techniques in Behavior Management

This course is designed to help students in understanding individuals with behavioral and/or emotional differences. Emphasis is on a systematic approach in order to observe, to explain, predict and improve the well-being of the individuals you will be working with.

EAPR 151 - Approaches to Learning

Aug 2021 - Sept 2021

This course is designed to help students gain an understanding of the learning process. The course will focus on helping students to understand how children learn. Emphasis will be placed upon learning modalities and styles. There will also be an examination of theories of child development, behavioural, cognitive, and social approaches, teaching and learning, intelligence, socio-cultural diversity, exceptionalities, and motivating students to learn.

EAPR 161 - Speech and Language Development

Sept 2021 - Oct 2021

In this course the student will gain an understanding of the foundations of language acquisition and literacy development. A key focus will be on how to improve language and literacy in speech, reading, and writing and what strategies will help students of all abilities to succeed in these areas. There will also be a discussion on modifications for literacy learning due to various exceptionalities and individual learner needs in an inclusive environment.

EAPR 163 - Planning for Inclusion

Oct 2021 - Nov 2021

This course focuses on differential practices and strategies to assist educational assistants with their work in an inclusive classroom. Planning and working with various exceptionalities will be studied. You will be looking at such areas as Learning and Behavior exceptionalities, Intellectual Disabilities and Autism Spectrum Disorder, Communication exceptionalities, Physical and Complex health needs and students who are at risk for many reasons. Issues related to inclusive schools, including diversity and equity, will also be explored. Students will learn how to develop an inclusive climate and how to develop a relationship with students, parents, and other key stakeholders involved in inclusion of students with exceptionalities.

ENGL 110 - Fundamentals of English Composition

ENGL 110 allows students to learn and apply core critical thinking, reading, and writing skills. In this course, students practice various forms of academic writing, including reflective journaling, summary and paraphrasing, case study analysis, and a problem-solving proposal. Throughout the course, students also learn to edit and revise their own work, as well as the work of their peers and collaborate through individual and group activities.

INTE 125 - Computer Skills for Professionals

May 2021 - June 2021

INTE 125 includes facilitation in both conceptual and functional computer understanding. In this course, classes devote special attention towards introducing students to current computer topics and tools from the perspective of their use by professionals in human services and in education fields. Throughout this course, students are introduced to a number of current web-based technologies and challenged through discussions relating to their use and application as a professional.

EAPR 199 - Professionalism I

May 2021 - Nov 2021

This practicum field experience is an essential component of the Education Assistant Professional Certificate Program. The combination of monthly seminars (12 hours) and practicum field experience hours (150 hours) form a solid foundation of practice.
